I am trying to determine my minimal Ashkenazi line. My sister and I both carry between 3 and 4%, my mother has none. My father’s sister just tested and she is 10%. None of us are showing Ashkenazi on our X Chromosome. Can we assume with some degree of certainty that our Jewish ancestry is on my father’s father’s line?
Dear Rhonda, It is likely that the Jewish ancestry is on your paternal grandfather's line, but don't entirely eliminate your paternal grandmother's line from consideration. I would test some first cousins of your father's on both sides of the family before you draw more firm conclusions in this regard.
