    3.     I am tracing all the family of a first fleeter and have quite a big tree. I was surprised to realise that the family had no less than four members who perished at Sandakan. In their records there are exact dates of death. Since all were killed [except the six that escaped] I'd like to know how exact dates of death were preserved.   Anyone have any clues? 3. Clare The dates of death for Sandakan POWs were compiled from a range of sources including Japanese records. Lynette Ramsay Silver has written the definitive book on the subject (Sandakan: a Conspiracy of Silence) and has identified some areas of concern re: the date of death for a number of POWs - for example, death dates attributed to Ranau in August are false. You'd be best off contacting Lynette via http://www.lynettesilver.com . The book, if you haven't already got it, has a complete nominal roll listing all known info regarding the fate of each POW and has details re: the reliability of death dates from certain camps (see the notes at Appendix 3).   Martin Scott --- On Sun, 15/11/09, Clare Stapleton <conjola2137@sbcglobal.net> wrote: From: Clare Stapleton <conjola2137@sbcglobal.net> Subject: [AUSTRALIAN-POWS] Sandakan POWs To: australian-pows@rootsweb.com Received: Sunday, 15 November, 2009, 1:00 PM     I am tracing all the family of a first fleeter and have quite a big tree.
