    3. Thank you for the notification and your work as admin. Kathleen. Sent from Mail for Windows 10 From: Peter Lakeman Sent: Wednesday, 15 January 2020 6:03 PM To: AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS@ROOTSWEB.COM Subject: [Australia-Schools] Notice that this list is about to close. Hello members of the AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS mailing list, currently hosted on Rootsweb/Ancestry servers. My name is Peter and I have been the list administrator of this list since it was abandoned. I have no idea when it was abandoned nor who the previous admin was. On 7th January 2020, Rootsweb informed all list admins that they will not be providing any mailing list services after 2nd March 2020, except to keep the archives available (see RW email appended below). In other words, all lists will cease to be. If members want to keep this list active, they will need to host it on a new server. A number of such servers exist, such as groups.io, FaceBook, google groups. I personally do not wish to remain the admin of this list, so one of the members will need to step up as a new administrator if they want to keep this list alive. As a side comment, I think that many of the smaller lists were created on a person's whim in Rootsweb's heyday, and are probably past reviving. I can't remember when the last post to this list was. If there are any questions, please post them to the list, but do it quickly as time is running out quickly. Cheers Peter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails.  Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. 1. [Australia-Schools] Your AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS mailing list is operational again.
    2. Peter Lakeman
    3. Hello subscribers to the australia-schools mailing list. All Rootsweb mailing lists have been nearly dead for the last two or so years. In February this year, Rootsweb upgraded the software that runs their 30,000 or so mailing lists, and after a few teething problems, the system is now up and running. The archives of past posts are gradually being restored, but this may take months. Subscribers may notice minor differences. The main difference for you is that you can register as a subscriber and then be able to adjust options for how you receive emails (e.g. single posts or digests in plain or MIME format, halt mail while on holidays and a few more things). Or you can just leave things as they are. As a reminder, this mailing list is for anyone with a genealogical interest in Australian schools and their ancestors who attended them. To post to this list or respond to a post, use the email address     australia-schools@rootsweb.com For questions about the operation of this list, please contact the list administrator at      australia-schools-owner@rootsweb.com Your list is back up, so if you want to keep it active and ongoing, please post your queries or information to the list. Otherwise you may lose it! Cheers Peter Lakeman Temporary List Admin

    1. [Australia-Schools] [Admin] The most frequently asked question of subscribers is:
    2. Manaia Alofa
    3. Rootsweb mailing lists are automatic and are managed by list robots. These robots take care of subscription requests and bouncing (rejected) emails. The most frequently asked question of subscribers is: ***************** "Why have I been unsubscribed?" Answer: If your list mail cannot be delivered for any reason, the list robot unsubscribes you after a certain number of failed attempts. (For the AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS list the maximum member bounce score is: 3) This can happen for a number of reasons - some of the more common reasons are that your mailbox is full, your spam filter is blocking the list mail, your ISP is blocking list mail from Rootsweb, you have put an automatic responder on your email.... If you were unsubscribed and did not wish to be taken off the mailing list, simply subscribe again. However be forewarned that if whatever caused the list robot to unsubscribe you the first time is still happening, it will simply remove you again after a specific number of bounces--3--(rejected list mail to your email address). But as a courtesy to all AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS listers, I can re-subscribe you manually. Just let me know. ****************** Other questions asked are: "How do I unsubscribe?" Answer: Simply follow the instructions at the bottom of every list mail message. ****************** "Why is my mail not getting to the mailing list?" Answer: Make sure that you are sending from the same email you are subscribed under. The list robot does not recognize names. It only recognizes email addresses. If your sending email address is not on the subscriber list, your email will be rejected. ****************** "Why am I not getting list mail?" Answer: Check the HelpDesk notices in the yellow box for announcements about any technical problems with Rootsweb mail. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ If you don't find the answer to your problem on the HelpDesk page you need to check if you are still subscribed to the list. You can get a list of all your subscribed to mailing lists from Password Central: http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ If Password Central doesn't include all lists to which you should be subscribed, re-subscribe to any lists that are missing from your subscribed lists by sending a new e-mail to: LISTNAME-request@rootsweb.com (replacing the word LISTNAME with the actual list name). Put only the word SUBSCRIBE in the subject and message body of your e-mail. ****************** Should anyone need further elaboration then you may give me a contact. --Manaia [List-Admin] AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS-admin@rootsweb.com My gratitude to Lorine McGinnis Schulze for sharing.

The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subscribed in both -L and -D modes. Therefore, if you wish to receive both modes, you will need to subscribe to the Digest using a different email address. Please give me a contact should anyone need further elaboration. 3. Hello Listers: Any concerns/questions, please contact: AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS-admin@rootsweb.com. To subscribe/unsubscribe: AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS-request@rootsweb.com. To subscribe in Digest mode: AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS-D-request@rootsweb.com. To send a message/post to the List: AUSTRALIA-SCHOOLS@rootsweb.com. >>>>>> FYI Only <<<<<< Mode = manner/method/way. There are two modes in which to subscribe: 1. The -L mode; the "regular" mode now. All regular subscribers receive posts/messages made to the list as separate/individual emails. 2. The -D mode; the "digest" mode now. All digest subscribers receive posts/messages made to the list as one BIG email. If you previously subscribed to the list in both -L and -D modes using the same email address, you will find that you are *no longer* subscribed in Digest mode. The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subscribed in both -L and -D modes.
