    1. [AUSTRALIA-NEW-ZEALAND] discovery of 3, 148 folk born in New Zealand in the 1920 USA census

    3. HI everyone, apologies for any cross postings. If, like me you have had brick walls for people who you know were born in New Zealand OR Australia but seem to have simply disappeared, I have hope for you. I have been searching for a family, mother born in New Zealand and went to USA, so searched the 1920 USA census without any other details but place of birth NEW ZEALAND on the Ancestry.com. I was astounded at the number of folk who were on it and had been born in New Zealand (3,148) Mind you, the transcribers got a bit confused as to where New Zealand was and there are some Newfoundland born people who have (New Zealand) noted. Also other places that start with 'New', such as New York or New Jersey. The other confusion was that the enumerators thought that New Zealand was in Holland !! Those NZer's who stated their race was MAORI, were noted as 'Maori, English'... There are lots of AUSTRALIAN's in the 1920 census too. In the 1910 USA census there are about 582 people who state that they were born in New Zealand. Cheers, Brenda
