I got rather hot under the collar and contacted BBC on this message.. and Home Office... in short they had to find a more humane method to carry out the work. Similar in West Norwood, cemetery in London, reselling old plots.. so if you go looking for a family plot. its been resold.. how about messages around the globe then? In short again, the council had to make good the graves they had disturbed... History is being lost in many a cemetery, look here in Wellington, when the powers to be wanted a motor way, and it was to go through Bolton Street Cemetery, where many of our very early settlers lied resting... many now in a mass grave and the headstones have been carefully put in other areas around the cemetery. Latest I heard from London, selling off the space on cleaned Monuments at graves.. reselling perhaps your family's headstone to another burial. Trouble is places like England, they are running out of space for burials. time will come it will all be cremations..
