Hi all, The 9th of November 2007 marks the bi-centenary of the beginning of the exodus of the first European settlement of Norfolk Island. Between November 1807 and September 1808 over 550 souls, including many who had sailed to the Australian colonies on the early fleets - were relocated, from Norfolk Island to Tasmania to once again establish a new life in a strange land. Special events have been organized on Norfolk Island to mark the Bi- Centenary including a Re-Enactment of the departure from the shores of Norfolk Island for transfer on the Lady Nelson to Tasmania in 1807.The re-enactment and other events in Norfolk Islands Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area will complement bi-centenary celebrations planned in Tasmania The departure of the Lady Nelson with its first contingent of settlers bound for the Derwent Tasmania, would have had a major impact on the community, not only the ones who were leaving on this trip, but also the ones left behind knowing it would soon be their turn. Join the Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area team for a wonderful week of history, and celebrations tracing the steps of your forebears. If you would like more information on the events being hosted here on Norfolk Island let me know cheers Liz Norfolk Island
