    1. [AUSTRALIA-NEW-ZEALAND] Leonard WHITE of Sydney!
    2. FMB
    3. I wonder whether anyone knows of this family? I have in my possession a letter that was written to my gt. grandparents Rufus and Elizabeth WHITE here in Hastings, Sussex. It refers to them as Uncle and Aunt. The letter was from 15 Leicester Avenue, Strathfield, Sydney and dated 27th January 1925. It mentions Nellie his wife and the girls. I have found out that the surname was WHITE. That is the limit of my info and I'd like to find out, where Leonard links in. I have no age to guide me and I don't know whether he was living in Hastings before he emigrated, or when he emigrated. If there is anyone out there that links in with this family, or who can locate a possible death for me I'd like to hear from them, in fact any help would be very much appreciated, so that I can at least find a place in my large WHITE family. Seems such a pity that he is out on a limbo. For your interest some of the names that I'm researching that come from Hastings, and I know that some have travelled over to your side of the big pond, are:- BOSSOM, COURT, GOURLEY, LUCKETT, PHILLIPS, SWAIN, WILDE. Also three others that were there some of the time. CARPENTER who originated from Roehampton, Surrey. HOWES who was listed as from Hereford and Ipswich, Suffolk but no bapt found as yet. SARGENT from Bexhill as well, birthplace Sussex but not known. I will post some of my other names at a later date, as I'm sure that it might help somebody. Happy hunting to everybody. Frances Bunyan, Stanmore, Middlesex, England.

    3. Gentlepeople, I may have it right this time. I am trying the reply all button Cheers Kathleen Gentlepeople-- Greetings to the New List. I have been trying to track down an Uncle of mine for many years, as has my family. Patrick J. Beattie, left Ireland as an Irish Christian Brother probably around the 1920's. He went originally to Australia---not sure where he worked there---but anyway he left and joined the Merchant Marines and later married an Australian girl, first name Maud ?. As far as the family knew he had at least one son also named Patrick J. Beattie. I hope that this new posing on a new site may prove a clue. Any clue no matter how small and how faint would really be appreciated. I should mention here also that he was born in Belfast, Ireland. Thank all of you in advance for any help whatsoever Kathleen Donnelly (Grandfather Patrick J. I am looking for a Janet, b. 15 Jun 1820, in Dumfries, Dumfrieshire, Scotland Her parents were Robert Welsh and Margaret McKNIGHT/McNEIGHT. Our family history says that one of the Welsh girls went to Australia. She may have been in the company of her aunt Jessie (McKnight). Aunt Jessie was married and had a family but I do not know who she married. They would probable have been in the area of Carlisle, Cumberland, ENG at the time of their migration. 1. [AUSTRALIA-NEW-ZEALAND] CROSSLAND Family research
    2. Alan Crossland
    3. Dear All, We are interested in family connections to an Edwin Crossland who emigrated to Australia from Wakefield in Yorkshire, England in 1865. He sailed for Australia from Liverpool on the 3rd May 1865 accompanied by his wife Sarah Ann (nee Barker) and his infant son Albert Edwin. The Courier Mail (Brisbane) dated 8th September 1865 reported the arrival of their vessel, the sailing ship Melmerbe, a Black Ball Packet Ship of 1510 tons, the day before. The newspaper also reported that there were 570 passengers on board - all in excellent health and spirits (newspapers have not changed). Sarah Ann and Albert Edwin were to die within the year. Edwin went on eventually to work in the goldfield's, and came down with Bill Smith's party where they camped at Smith's Creek, which later became Cairns. We are interested in contacting any parts of the family not already known, and are also interested in contacting any Crossland name connections, especially back to Yorkshire and possibly Wakefield. Many Thanks, Alan and Martin Crossland. [email protected]

    2. Looking for any information on Alexander CAMPBELL, possibly born 9 Feb 1823 Kildalton, Islay, Argyl, Scotland of parents Robert CAMPBELL and Ann GILCHRIST. He left Islay abandoning his wife of a few months, Mary JOHNSTON (who was pregnant) and went to Australia. According to family lore he died there before 1913. He may have married again, not mentioning his already married state. This may be him immigrating: Alexander Campbell, age 35 (therefore born about 1822), arrived Australia (Victoria?), July 1857 on ship Kitty Simpson, Port F, Fiche 052, page 001.
