Hi everyone, Is there anyone else researching the descendants of Roger HILL. He was a School Master, born ? England abt 1840. Roger became a Native School Teacher near Opotiki He married a young Maori woman Puttie Forefore or Whareherehere Anaru,. Roger died September 30 1911. Their children are: Maori Name English Name Ani HIRA A. BIDDLE (married name) Te Oti HIRA Polly SUGGS or perhaps SAGGS (married name) Putiputi HIRA Maria TILBY - 2nd marriage, 1928, (Hutchison, 1st Marriage 1909) Hewa HIRA Bruce HILL Te Naru HIRA Bob HILL Hemi HIRA James HILL Maria HIRA Nellie MILLS (married name) I am assisting my cousin who has been based in Australia for many years and is very keen to discover others descended from Roger HILL and Puttie nee FOREFORE / ANARU of whom she is a Great Grand daughter through her father¹s side of the family. The information above is from a copy of Roger HILL¹s Last Will and Testament, (my cousin has a copy of it) Her father is Stephen Aspin James HUTCHISON son of Maria HILL / Putiputi HIRA, HUTCHISON who divorced her first husband of many years her senior, Thomas Martin HUTCHISON, b. Thames NZ and later married a Mr TILBY in 1928. We would love to hear of anyone with connections to this family. By the by, there is apparently a sad story about Polly HILL, she married a Mr SUGGS and emigrated to the United States of America. She and her husband died and the children were put into an orphanage in the deep south of America. Cheers and thanks in advance for any help and assistance. Hi Dianne New Zealand BDM index is only available on microfiche and is held at all major libraries in New Zealand. I believe that it is also available at some major libraries in Australia. If you can get access to these it will save you the search fee. Go to http://www.bdm.govt.nz/ and click on "Find family history records" and you will find an explanation of how to order certificates. Hi My name is Dianne and I have just started researching my husbands family history.I was wondering if someone can tell me where I may be able to access the birth records for New Zealand in NSW Australia. I am looking for the birth of my husbands grandmother Edith Annie HART born c1903-1908 in Auckland NZ Parents names were Arnold HART and Myrtle Frances HART (nee HEAD) This information is from Edith's marriage certificate. No age is stated but as she needed consent from the guardian of minors she must have been under 21 yrs of age when she married in 1924, in Croydon Park NSW to William Henry MYERS. Both her parents are listed as deceased. I do not know when Edith came to Australia or with who. I would like to order her birth certificate if possible. Hello Listers I am looking for anyone researching the ROSLER family, in particular John Rosler and his wife Mary Ann GRIFFIN. Mary Ann was widowed pre 1886. At this time, she was remarrying in Australia, aged 27 and had three children. She added that she was born in Nelson or Dunedin. Her parents were listed as William and Margaret (or Marguerite) Griffin nee Fitzsimmons. John Roslers parents are unknown. William Griffin was deceased by 1886. Thanks Barbara and Tony Sydney Australia

Hi List, forget my last post, I have found where I can look it up, Mary
Hi list, hoping someone can help me as I have never had to look up anything in NZ before, I have a HERBERT CHARLES DATE born 1885 in Ballaratt Victoria, he went to NZ working for the Union Bank -( later to become the ANZ). He was there in 1911, when his father died, and I can find no record of him back in Australia. Can someone tell me where I can research his death? Or marriage, children etc., many thanks Mary
Hi Elizabeth, Your Elizabeth ASHE marriage to John SIMES in 1876 appears in the index for Brides and Grooms Folio Number 0612. You say they were married in Dunedin so the intention to marry form will be in the National Archives in Dunedin. The form will tell you how long both party's have been in the town prior to their marriage( not necessarily the country) The Archives will look for the form for you but as an overseas resident there is a charge. The Web site is: http://www.archives.govt.nz or you can e-mail them at:Dunedin@archives.govt.nz Trust this helps,Leo.
Some death certs tell you how long a person has been in a country.
Found this gentleman by 7am this morning.. wonderful.. he lives in Wellington, and in his 80s...took me under 12 hours to track him down in whole of NZ!!! People from Wales had a small gift for him, from an old friend of his, now I have it, and will send it down to his daughter, who telephoned me this morning, after receiving a message to ring me .. long story how I found him... hard work .. but found....I met the friends today, and said I will deal with it thanks... so alls well that ends well.. super sleuth.. hello, I thught I would try one more time to see if anyone can help me locate this relative. Elizabeth Ash, from Wiltshire England to Australia or New Zealand, between the years 1863(maybe).. born in 1843. and when she married in .. 28 March 1876 to John Simes., in Dunedin, New Zealand. I have tried to see if I can locate the "intent to Marry" cards that were suppose to be filed somewhere.. and have had no luck..These cards are suppose to tell one how long a person had been in the country at the time of marrige. She may have arrived as assisted immigrant, but I am not sure as her sister went to America unassisted. Any help would be most appreciated, before I just have to "give up" been doing this a long, long time. thank you Elizabeth Ash Evans.. USA
Not the 1880s but here's a Roland COLE arriving in Australia - you would need to look at the register to find his port of disembarkation: http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search_results.asp Unassisted Immigration to Victoria Index of Inward Passenger Lists for British, Foreign and New Zealand Ports 1852-1923 ROLAND COLE, 25 OCT 1912, 'CHEMNITZ', Foreign port, fiche 444, Page 033 I found two lots of family members coming from Auckland to Sydney in the 1880s indexed by the PRO Victoria - the ships went on to Melbourne, but my people disembarked in Sydney.
