hi Is there anyone on list that can tell me if Burrawang Cemetery has been transcribed or if anyone lives near it? Ive just been told that the street leading from the main road to Burrawang is McGrath St. I know that Patrick and Jane (1841 arrivals) had land in Marulan and O Allen.... If anyone knows of this cemetery I would like to know a/the age of the cemetery b/approx # of headstones c/if it is council or church opporated d/if it is modern use I have digital camera...will travel just need an idea of how long it would take and the conditions. I spent ages cutting back brambles and lantana at Jamberoo last week to get headstones pics Christene thanks in advance searching McGraths ..and telling as many as possible of the reunion planned for next yr
Hi Christene, There are two Cemeteries at Burrawang. The Catholic Cemetery is located in the Catholic Church grounds and dates back to the 1870's. The other is located on the way to Fitzroy Falls and has about 20 head stones, it also dates back to around the 1870's. Berrima Historical Society and the Kiama FHC have done the inscriptions. The Southern Highlands index also has McGrath's listed on their web site. I will be up that way tomorrow so I will stop in and have a look around for you.
