Yep, I started my tree with only my paternal line in mind and as a mere male didn't give much thought to t'other side. Having matured (aged another five years) decided that the women of the world and the rakes and those unfortunate young domestics whom were 'victims of the times' all had a place in my 'tree'. I use Family Tree Maker V10 and it caters for any relationship and allows you to 'hide' individuals from sensitive eyes when printing details. Leave the 'blood lines' to those that study genetics, we study people. I agree 100% with Gerry and Robyn. I have remarried and my husband has been 'father' to my son for 4/5th's of his life. So should I include him in the family tree when he is no blood relation to my son? Of course!! I am including both his biological father and the 'father' that has reared him, after all it is the non biological father who has been there for him in the middle of the night, helped him with school work, worked on his car, been to his school activities, loaned him $$$ etc etc..... I also have 2 first cousins who I have always known were adopted, they are no less my cousins than my biological ones are, I have known them all my life. My son's new girlfriend is adopted, and as I said to my son, well there is not much difference in her being adopted to him having a step father - both parents have reared these children as their own.
