Hello Michelle, et al, There are 3 CDs (available separately) covering NSW BDM indexes. 1 1788-1888 Pioneer Index of BDM 2 1889-1918 Federation Index of BDM 3 1919-1945 Between the Wars Index of DM (no birth) Off the top of my head I can't remember the exact cost of but it is around $A250 each. Good value really if you have heaps of rellies in NSW and don't have easy access to other sources. The CDs will give a little more than the on-line version, but not much. You will get for births and deaths: Surname Given Name(s) Father's name (but probably you won't get this on illegitimate births) Mother's name (not including the surname) Year of birth Year of registration Registration Place (which is not always the exact place of birth, but the registration area) Registration Number Note: don't always count on having the parent names provided in the case of a death - there are just too many where the parents' names are not known. Generally, if the parent name is not on the index, it won't be on any certificate you may order. For marriages Surname Given Name(s) Spouse surname Spouse given name Year of marriage Year of registration Registration Place (as above) Registration Number For pre 1856 entries (i.e., pre-civil registration of births, deaths, marriages, when all was church records of baptism, burial and marriage) you will get quite often a denomination and/or parish I don't know about the "best" place to buy them, but you could try: Informit, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (who produced them). I don't have a web address for them (I bought my copy pre-internet days and the instruction booklet doesn't list same) Can probably be bought from Goulds Genealogy in Adelaide www.gould.com.au/ I think - although the web address may have changed. Can be bought from Society of Australian Genealogists, Kent Street, Sydney www.sag.org.au/ I think that's it - if I've forgotten anything I'm sure someone else will remember and let you know.
