These were common graves and it was not just in Northcote. It was a common practice. Carmel Hello again all In a conversation about this topic tonight with my 81yr old Mum (who is still as sharp as a tack) she was saying that her Mother told her that at the height of the Depression they knew of funeral directors in Northcote that would arrange 2 or 3 people not previously known to one another to be buried together to slash the cost for the individual families.
