Maybe the father was buried in a single gave where as the Mother could have been buried in a gave with room for 2 persons Like my Grandfather buried in Eaglehawk alone but room for one more and my grandmother his wife buried in Altona Memorial Park because she said no one would visit her if she was in Eaglehawk and also room for one more with her.
