Not to build up hopes here but I have had a wonderful time since Sat going through http://ndpbeta.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home which has a number of Australian newspapers scanned on line. If you put the name of a person you are trying to locate (mainly 19th century) enter, then down the left column select family notices, you may be lucky to find a death or funeral notice, not forgetting marriages and births.
