Hi, as you may all have figured out I'm researching a Greek family for my cousins partner. Now I'm trying to confirm years of deaths etc, doing basic stuff, and what I've found is that quite a few either haven't been registered, or haven't been registered PROPERLY. Two surnames for example Cotsos. Now Costa is registered, but his wife Eleni isn't. I tried just Cotsos and their is just ONE registered on the Death index. Now I find that amazing, considering how many Cotsos' must be around. Ditto with Papadopolous - I thought their would be hundreds registered (oh by the way I suppose you all know "opolous" means "son of" just as an aside), but no, their were only TWO Papadopolous' registered. Amazing. I understand it's not a Greek thing to put death notices in the papers much, but I thought ALL deaths had to be registered, yes???? Oh the Papadopolous, that was Eleni's maiden name. Also due to a family fight I know one of the sons changed his name to Kotsos, eh, easy en ough to trace, but.. I have another family (same group), who changed their names from Paraskevas to Parris, but I can find no record of the name change on National Archives website, and very little else. I just find this all so frustrating. Any advice (I've got the Valium, so any OTHER advice)... With thanks in advance, Jo.
