Good Morning; Following postings re burial records, I thought the following from the Victorian Cemetery Act might be of interest. It may explain what happened in Victoria re Trusts and records. There was an amendment to the Victorian legislation regarding cemeteries in Part: 1 of "An Act to amend the Laws relating to or effecting Public Health. 6 September, 1867: 31 Vic 310. pp. 101-103." Amongst the sections of this part, the following were noted: (a). In Clause: 3 it stated that "No cemetery or burial ground shall be established or opened in Victoria save with the approval of the Governor in Council." (b). In Clause: 8 it noted that "All burials within any cemetery under any law for the time being in force relating to public cemeteries shall be registered in a book to be provided and kept by the trustees for that purpose; and in such register-book shall be distinguished in what parts of the cemetery the several bodies are buried; and such register-book shall be indexed so as to facilitate searches for entries therein."
