    3. Hi Jo, There is a Thomas Alexander who also married a Catherine Mary Murphy, and their children were born earlier than your Catherine. Could this be the one that died? Also The 3 children for John James & Catherine Murphy were all born after she died. As a Catholic, not even I can believe in that many miracles!! 3. Hi Jo, John James Alexander married Catherine Murphy in 1875 at Castlemaine. (Strangely enough her marriage is registered in Melbourne, his in Castlemaine ?) Marriages usually took place at the brides place of residence. The Catherine Alexander (Murphy) who died in 1875 aged 40, death registered in Indi which is up near Wodonga. Her parents are listed as John James MURPHY and Catherine DUDGOW. The average age for a female to marry falls between the ages of 18 to 24. That would put her birth around 1851 to 1857. What makes you think that this is the one that married John James ? Both Murphy and Catherine are common Irish names. The 5 children of John J. and Catherines' births range from 1876 to 1885, which is what you would expect from a marriage in 1875. All their births took place in Melbourne. Carlton, Hawthorn and Hotham. I'd have a look at a Catherine Alexander, nee Murphy, who's death is registered at Carlton in 1930, aged 73. Yours, Garry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "bsalter1" <bsalter1@optusnet.com.au> To: <australia-cemeteries@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 20, 2010 10:03 AM Subject: Re: [AUSTRALIA-CEMETERIES] Connundrum > Hi Jo, There is a Thomas Alexander who also married a Catherine Mary > Murphy, and their children were born earlier than your Catherine.
