    3. Good Morning List Members; I have two death certificates noting their burials at Astley Hill (near Greensborough and outer northern suburb of Melbourne) and Gains Hall (in what is now Bundoora, an outer northern Suburb of Melbourne. * Michael Alfred McLAUGHLIN, aged 9 weeks, died 1 June 1873. Parents were John McLaughlin and Harriett (Johnston). He was buried at Astley Hill on 2 June 1873. Astley Hill Station was the property of Michael McLaughlin in the Greensborough area in the middle to late 1800s. It would appear that the burial was probably in a family/private burial ground. * Henry JOLLEY, aged 4 years, died 11 June 1878 at Bundoora, probably at Gains Hall. His parents were James Jolley (Farmer) and Eleanor. He was buried in Gains Hall Cemetery on 13 June 1878. Interesting that the death certificate notes it as Gains Hall Cemetery. Gains Hall was the property of 56 hectares of James Jolley and was north of what is now Grimshaw Street, Bundoora. It was believed that there were 3 children buried in the "cemetery" at the bottom of their garden. This area was near Greensborough. If anyone has any information on these old burial grounds or on the families, I would appreciate hearing from them. These old burial grounds/cemeteries keep turning up. Keeps my research going flat out into the old cemeteries. Just out of interest, chatting with the Victorian Registry of BDM, their Burial Index being produced from the death certificates has identified 9126 burial sites (probably quite a few are cemeteries/burial sites with a different name as one time, ie Preston Cemetery was known as Macleans, Darebin Creek, Strathallan and Preston and many probably lone graves). Still it is one large number. It will be great to see all of them when the Burial Index finally comes out (date unknown). Currently the Burial Index is up to 1959. My mere 1735 burial sites from my research has a "loooonnnnggggg" way to go. The two above were new ones for me so were added to my database. Cheers, David

    3. Hi Gary; Thanks for the information. There are 5 Jolley people buried at Greensborough - Francis (nee Jarvis), James, Edward, Sarah and William James. Still trying to see how they fit in with James and Eleanor Jolley of Gains Hall. Also trying to locate the other syuspected two children in the Gains Hall Cemetery. 3. Hi David, There is a headstone for John at st. Helena, went and checked .Will James Jolley, there are two of them. James the elder married in 1873 Anne Jane Hayes and James the younger married Ellen (Eleanor) Hayes in the same year. Anne and Ellen appear to be sisters, both have Alex listed as their father in BDMs Anne Jolley died in 1881, and in her will is mentioned Gains Hall, would be worth a look. It appears that she owns it, and she left it to her step-son James(younger) & his wife Ellen. Ellen died in 1916.
