H Dorne, Have double checked the photo of this headstone and it is damaged and faing. It has been broken and re-pieced together - unfortunately one of the cracks goes right through where the year is inscribed. Since you have found a registered death in 1883 and given that an 3 could easily have been read as an 8 due to the condition of the headstone, I will amend the Cemeteries of SW Victoria entry to read 1883.
