Hi Jo, There is a Thomas Alexander who also married a Catherine Mary Murphy, and their children were born earlier than your Catherine. Could this be the one that died? Also The 3 children for John James & Catherine Murphy were all born after she died. As a Catholic, not even I can believe in that many miracles!! Hi David, There is a headstone for John at st. Helena, went and checked .Will James Jolley, there are two of them. James the elder married in 1873 Anne Jane Hayes and James the younger married Ellen (Eleanor) Hayes in the same year. Anne and Ellen appear to be sisters, both have Alex listed as their father in BDMs Anne Jolley died in 1881, and in her will is mentioned Gains Hall, would be worth a look. It appears that she owns it, and she left it to her step-son James(younger) & his wife Ellen. Ellen died in 1916. Dave, I make mistake, James died 26 Dec 1916, not 1912. I have 5 listed for Greensborough. This from the memorials. James Jolley Frances Jolley Billy Jolley, d. 1 Feb 1945, aged 3y 11m, son of Bill and Del, brother of Deverie Adele Jolly, 1919 - 2009, parent of Billy and Deverie Wiliam Joseph Jolly, 1908 - 1997, parent of Billy and Deverie Note the difference in the spelling of Jolley, that's from the memorial. According to the BDM's Sarah and Edward were the children of James and Frances. Eleanor Jolley (-Hayes) is listed as both Eleanor and Ellen. Sarah d.1941 aged 75, registered Greens, daughter of James & Frances. There's a James d.1907, aged 73, registered Greens. Son of James & Priscella (Priscilla Braddy or Brady?) James, husband of Frances, was the son of Noah and Sarah Harvey. This next is from the information table at the cemetery :- 161 Jolley Edward (Edwin) 1860- 10mths son/ James & Frances 159 Jolley Frances (Fanny) 14.05.1912 86yrs dau/ Edward Jarvis & Sophia Sheaf 160 Jolley James 26.12.1916 90yrs 162 Jolley Sarah 1941 75yrs dau/ James Jolley & Frances Jarvis 163 Jolley William James (Billy) 01.02.1945 3yrs son/ William J. Jolley & Louisa A. Knapsey Notice the difference in the parents of Billy. Sorry abou the typo. Hi again, Benadette kindly tells us John McLaughlin is buried at St. Helena so I looked up the records and there is a memorial there for John C. McLaughin, died 19 Aug 1927, aged 89 yrs, our father, and on the same memorial, Caroline E., died 25 Nov 1916, aged 70yrs, our mother. Other McLaughlans listed are :- Dorris, 26 May 1899 - 1 Apr 1994, sister of Myrtle May Frederick, 30 Jun 1957, aged 78yrs. Myrtle May, 1902 - 1974, on memorial with Dorris John, d. 5 Oct 1933, aged 64yrs, our father, on memorial with Rosalie Ellen. Rosalie Ellen, d. 30 Sep 1953, aged 77yrs, our mother. The graves are all together so they are probably all related. The grave inscriptions on the website is only a partial record mainly covering the Beale family. It's never a good idea to publish partial records as it leads people to believe that there are no other memorials existing. Hi I don't know how many of you know but the Ballarat General Cemetery website is now online and fully searchable. I found it by accident when searching for an uncle of my husband's who had moved to the area in recent years. Here is the link: http://www.ballaratcemeteries.com.au/ Click on History and you will find a link to all the searchable databases. Shirlee Wellington NZ
There is also a CD which gives a lot more information, where they lived, occupations etc. This is available through the Ballarat Genies Website. However if you only have one or two let me know as I have this CD and some photographs, (no time to take them all at this stage! ) Carmel -----Original Message----- From: australia-cemeteries-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:australia-cemeteries-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Shirlee Cantwell Sent: Saturday, 18 December, 2010 11:29 AM To: australia-cemeteries@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUSTRALIA-CEMETERIES] Ballarat Cemeteries website now online Hi I don't know how many of you know but the Ballarat General Cemetery website is now online and fully searchable.
