    3. Hello Christine I was up there a few years ago with my son, and photographed the CofE and the RC cem's at Nerriga, from memory there were a couple of TAPER and McGRATH headstones there in the RC one. Unfortunately we ran out of time and didn't get into Corang or Charleyong and I had intended going back, but still haven't as yet. I haven't been able to do it for a while, but have been collecting bits here and there to record burials in the area. Some time ago when I asked for help/info on burials in the area a lady sent me a photocopy of the headstone of Margaret McLelland [d 1873] and her grandaughter Clare A Rolfe[d 1874], though the death cert say's bur'd at Nerriga, I'm pretty sure that that headstone may also be at Corang. The computer I had then died a rather nasty death, and lost files, e-mail adresses etc all in one foul swoop, the list I had made etc on the cemeteries included, but do have the photo's and earlier work printed from the list. Also the book 'Burials in County of Argyle NSW 1856-1918" list some who died and were buried at Corang, if you would like me to look any names up for you. There is a photo [ page 226] in the following book re gold fields "Bungonia to Braidwood" by Barry McGowan from page 209 Corang Village and the Corang Deep Lead "The village and the Deep Lead mine were located on and near the main Braidwood Nerriga road north of the Corang River crossing. Of the Deep Lead little is left other than a few mullock heaps and two hut sites, for the new road alignment has been put through the middle of the site. Of the village there is little left other than the site of the Roman Catholic church and the cemetery. The stone footings for the church entrance are still visible. The cemetery measures about 32m x 25m and contains five headstones and numerous burial mounds. The headstones date from as early as 1854 in the case of Mary Taper and 1859 for Mark McGrath" Regards Marg Batemans Bay ----- Original Message ----- From: "christene hartley" <chartley@tpg.com.au> To: <AUSTRALIA-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 11, 2003 9:59 PM

    2. Julie Graham
    3. Hello all I am trying to find where my Grandfather Edward Albert (Ted)Goodrich is buried (without much luck I might add). He was born at Drake NSW in 1880 & married my Grandmother Alice Ada Mansfield at Tenterfield in 1901. The family moved to Moogoon Rd Goondiwindi where they had a property (selection). The house burnt down in 1919 - he was away working at Woolerina Station near Bollon Queensland at the time. He was estranged from the family sometime shortly after 1924 & I have had no success in finding a record of his whereabouts or his death after that time. I have paid for a complete search of the closed records in NSW & QLD & have searched the open records myself to no avail. Checked electoral records last entry I found was 1924 (still with his wife). Any suggestions? ( I know he probably didn't want to be found). Julie Graham Canberra

The AVR's searched an Australian Time Line of 1788-1905 in all states however this does not mean that there are no records, with a surname of that origin there may well be immigration records etc' which may return more information. Also it would assist anyone helping your quest Vince if you could give them an indication of some dates or time lines and in particular a geographic idea of where your family settled, lived and/or married, and even a point of entry into Australia and their actual country of origin. 3. Hi An endangered cemetery list? >From what I understand it is way past that. I checked Grevilles postal directory and this is a description of Corang.. Corang Page 137 Distance 173 miles South of Sydney Mail closes at General Post Office Saturday, via Nowra, 4 p.m., Tuesday, via Braidwood, 4 p.m. Mail arrives at Post Town Monday, via Nowra, 7 p.m., Wednesday, via Braidwood, 5p.m. Mail leaves for Sydney Wednesday, via Nowra, 5 p.m., Monday, via Braidwood, 7p.m. Mail arrives at Sydney Saturday, via Nowra, 1 p.m., Thursday, via Braidwood, 7.15 a.m. Route - Steam Shoalhaven, and Nowra, 55m. Corang; or rail Goulburn and coach Braidwood, 28 m. Corang apparently it was an area of land...not a town little sth of Narriga( nerriga) I believe that there was about 20 graves some with only wooden crosses that were gone many yrs ago.The land was sold and I believe that it is on a property ...where the headstones were a nuisance to the cows and vandalised. Im hoping to go for a drive this weekend but ...I must admit that Im a bit dubious about the reaction that Ill get knocking on Farmer Browns door garden tools and camera in hand. 3. For the Aussie cricket fans on the List who need a lift - ... ~ John A lawyer's wife dies. At the cemetery, people are appalled to see that the tombstone reads: "Here lies Shirley, wife of Morris Rosen, L.L.D., Wills, Divorce, Malpractice, and Immigration Legal Services" Suddenly, Morris bursts into tears. His brother says, "You should cry, pulling a cheap stunt like this on Shirley's tombstone !" Through his tears, Morris sobs, "You don't understand! They left out the phone number and Email !"
