    3. Hi Ray, I totally agree with your reply re. local family history centres. I certainly have found that to be so! Early on in my research, I asked for information. Before I knew it - they had called someone from the local family history centre and I was promptly charged for the information - which turn out to be wrong!! They told me there was no headstone - and of course, on finding the grave; there was a headstone!! The database is a good idea - I for one, do not mind assisting other researchers who don't live locally. 3. Hi Sandra, Yes it is also a very good idea, my only problem with that is and I'm trying to say this in the nicest way as I do not need to be falling out of favour with anyone. Is that some Family History Groups tend to hold things very close and are not to happy in sharing without a price which is the case with most that hold cemetery records. Having said that a lot of these groups over look the fact that cemetery records are public records & property and unless gazetted have no right in charging for look-ups donations are a different thing maybe I've said to much all ready but the idea in doing the data base is what I said it's a volunteer thing and done freely to help people searching that could be to far away from a certain cemetery or even overseas. Please do not get me wrong I have the greatest respect for Family History Groups and Societies but there are times when they have something given to them in trust to be shared but it's over looked and becomes owned. But as I said, this is only my personal feeling on the matter. "So please, I beg please no flames" your welcome to comment but lets keep to the issue and that is to "build a data base" to help others> Regards, Ray. ~O^O~ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra Langshaw" <slangshaw9@optusnet.com.au> To: <AUSTRALIA-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, September 12, 2003 10:35 AM Subject: [[AUS-CEM]] Re: [[AUS-CEM]] WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS G'day Family Historians. re Raymonds idea of adding an individual's name and nearest cemetery to a database - it may be more effective to enllist the closest Family History Group who have their own databases of their local cemeteries.
