David, Thank you SO much! I didn't think I had a hope of anyone being able to give me the information. The spelling does waver between the two on other documentation (- that's 'cause he was Irish and couldn't speak proper!!!!) but that's definitely him. I am very grateful for you going to the trouble of looking it up for me and so quickly!!!! It is MUCH appreciated. Does anyone have a list of graves ( I believe there is a book that was in print with the information?) from the old Cemetery in SYDNEY, Australia which was where Central Railway now stands? I am looking for a death around 1840 for one BERNARD HUGHES. The Cemetery was bulldozed and some of the graves moved to other locations but I have reason to believe that this one was not moved in the designated time. Is there information anywhere about who was buried there originally and what was written on the tombstones? Thank you for any assistance Kerri
Hi Marina, I was one of the original transcribers from this project. Unfortunately, the site is no longer monitored. However, I do have some of the information which may be of some use. Below is transcribed from the burial registers. The format for most of them are Name, Entry date, Age, Status, Cause of death, Residence, Denomination, Minister, Funeral, Representative. Charles J Connop - 3 June 1930 - Aged 39 years and 10 months - Married - Helanotic Tarcoma - Trafalgar - RC - Father Walsh - June 5, 5.30pm - Thomas Connop Edward Connop - 25 July 1867- Aged 55 - Farmer - Plueracy Liver Complaint - Little River - Independent - Thos Fullager - 25/7/1867 4.30pm Edward John Connop - 11 Feb 1881 - Aged 44 - Storekeeper - Drowning - Little River - RC - Rev Tround? - Tuesday, 3.30pm John Connop - 12 May 1951 - Aged 82 - Widower - Old Age - Little River - RC - Father McLaren - May 14, 3pm - R Carlton Margaret Connop - 23 June 1946 - Aged 85 - Married - Senile Decay - Little River - RC - Father Beare - June 25, 3pm - R F Carlton Mary Connop - Abt 1 August 1892 - Aged ? - Widow - Heart Disease - Little River - RC - Sunday 3pm Mary Connop - 8 April 1893 - Aged 14 days - Infant - Dysentry - RC - no minister - Saturday 3pm Thomas R Connop - 3 January 1900 - Aged 10 months - Infant - RC - Thursday - John E Connop Thomas R Connop - 18 September 1966 - Aged 63 - Single - Heart - Little River - Father Petalkis - September 20, 3pm - R Carlton The only inscription I have been able to find in my records is as follows: In memory of EDMUND JOHN CONNOP who died February 1881 aged 47 years. native of England. May his soul rest in peace. Amen. Erected by his affectionate widow, Mary. And his beloved wife MARY died 25th. August 1892 aged 60 years. Also MARY died 6th. April 1893, aged 14 months. and THOMAS RICHARD died 2nd. Jan. 1899, aged 10 months. The dear children of John and Margaret Connop R.I.P. In loving memory of JOHN E. CONNOP died 12 May 1951 aged 82 years. Also his son THOMAS R. CONNOP died 18 Sept. 1966 aged 63 years. Many of the graves are unknown and so this may be what has happened to some of the older burials. Hope this is of some assistance. I notice that you are in New Zealand. If you send me a reminder email after the 2nd of Feb (when the kids go back to school), I could go and take some photos of the graves for you. The cemetery is only about 15 minutes from where I live. Hello Nola You have not noticed a cemetery at Baddaginnie, because there isn't one there. I mentioned Balmattum (just a lone grave) which you probably know is on the other side of Violet Town.
