    3. Thanks again Garry - I've used electoral rolls before but mostly for 19th century folk. I was delighted to hear they're alphabetical for recent years - with no idea AT ALL of where Riccardo might have lived in Queenland the electoral rolls looked like a fairly daunting task, but I'm going to the SLV tomorrow and see what I can find. How exciting - if I can find a location I can make more localised enquiries! Call me an optimist, I might find the fellow who was the original starting point of this search - Rico's brother Claudio CRISMANICH. He was last heard of about 16 years ago when he's believed to have gone to the Philippines... Can't wait to get to the SLV! Thanks again, Loretta ----- Original Message ----- From: "Garry Batt" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 20, 2009 2:27 AM Subject: Re: [AUSTRALIA-CEMETERIES] CRISMANICH burial in Queensland > Hi Loretta, > just for general information, the Victorian State library holds the > electoral rolls for most states on microfiche dating back to 1903. > Up until around 1991 they were listed by polling place and after that they > are in alphabetical order.

    3. Hi Loretta, just for general information, the Victorian State library holds the electoral rolls for most states on microfiche dating back to 1903. Up until around 1991 they were listed by polling place and after that they are in alphabetical order. Years ago I remember going to the post office in a country town and looking up the local electoral roll for someone I was researching. New electoral rolls are usually issued after every Federal election so they are reasonably up to date. Good luck in your searching. Yours, Garry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Thomas Family" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 19, 2009 7:24 PM Subject: Re: [AUSTRALIA-CEMETERIES] CRISMANICH burial in Queensland > Thanks Garry, > > I've just joined a Queensland mailing list so I'll give it a try. 3. Many thanks to everyone who has replied to my query - I had a feeling it was not going to be an easy search. The family does have its fair share of skeletons, but I hope enough time has gone by to allow us to find some answers without incurring any further damage or bad feeling. I really appreciate all your help and suggestions - mailing list people are wonderful! When (not IF!) we find some solutions I'll post a message to this list. Thank you all, Loretta & John

    3. Loretta, Have had sort of the same thing in my dads family, his mother ran of with a travelling salesman who she was pregnant too, leaving dad behind. When I started looking at my gg grandparents I had contact with a family memebr who didnt know about his g aunts marriage and son before she had the last son. Caused quite a problem especially when I sent him the certificates to prove what I had been saying. Apparently it had been covered up for a few decades. 3. Thanks Barbara, Riccardo Bernard was the father of the Riccardo (Rico) in question - you've probably gathered the family dynamics from the other messages and replies posted to the list. I'm hoping that documents ordered from the National Archives might give us some clues - they were "not examined" last week but I applied for access and they've been cleared - you never know! 3. Hi Chris, Thanks for your reply. You're not kidding when you say it's a less common name than Smith or Jones! The only one listed in Aus phone books is my half-brother John in Wonthaggi, who I'm doing this for. I haven't yet put a message on the Gippsland list because John's aunt, sister of the Riccardo in question, still lives in Bairnsdale and I didn't want to upset anyone. But she doesn't speak about Rico - John phoned her recently to see if she could provide a more specific location in Queensland and she hung up on him. I guess that gives us carte blanche to go ahead with whatever we can do to find out ourselves. So I will do that thing, post a message on the Gippsland list!
