    3. Dear All I have commenced uploading headstones from Section F1 of the Carr Villa Memorial Park, Launceston, Tasmania. Carr Villa is a substantial project, so I shall be adding sections to the website in-between other cemeteries. I would greatly appreciate your feedback on this matter - i.e., as to whether or not it will be useful to you as users of the website. With kindest regards, Ria Kotynia. -- Dr Ria Kotynia Headstones from Cemeteries of Tasmania http://www.ozgenonline.com/~riacaroline/ Partner site of Australian Cemeteries http://www.australiancemeteries.com/

    2. Thomas Family
    3. Do any of you lovely people out there have access to the CD of cemeteries in the Orange area? My main surname of interest is THORNCRAFT (sometimes THORNCROFT) but I'm also interested in WISE. William and Sophia THORNCRAFT arrived in NSW in 1841 from Kent. Sophia died in 1887 (registered in Orange) but I can't find a conclusive death for William and am hoping they might be buried together. Thanks, Loretta

There was an inquest on Hannah Hiho 7 February 1846, and there is a link to requesting a copy of the inquest which may indicate where she was buried. She departed London 12 October 1824 on board ship "Henry" and arrived Tasmania 8 February 1825. 1. [AUSTRALIA-CEMETERIES] Impartiality of website search engines
    2. Ria Kotynia
    3. Today I was alerted (via a radio broadcast) to the questionability of the impartiality of web search engines. It was suggested, via research, that some search engines may be prioritising websites that promote their "brand". I guess this is a good reminder for people such as I, who tend to rely upon one major search engine, to use other sources as well when searching the web, as various search engines can produce quite differing responses. In short, if you are using the web to source information, use a number of search engines to optimise your findings. 3. I did a quick look at the Queensland cemeteries. The number of entries for the Queensland cemeteries on this site show that there is no way these are complete listings (of burials, of headstones, or whatever). There are far too few entries (around 100) for cemeteries with thousands of burials in towns like Gympie, Maryborough, Bundaberg. We have photographed all the headstones in Kilkivan and Tiaro http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/Kilkivan-Kilkivan/ http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/Tiaro-Tiaro/ so you can compare for yourself that this site is very incomplete. Of course, anything is better than nothing, and you may get lucky and find the grave you are looking for. However, I would prefer it if the WWW site were to give some indication of the completeness (or percentage completeness) of the material provided, as it helps people to decide what interpretation to make if they can't find a hoped-for grave in a particular cemetery. 1. Re: [AUSTRALIA-CEMETERIES] Gravestone photos.
    2. I wonder what their base source is. For example Kilkivan Queensland doesn't have photos. By my rough guess against our photo set there are only a third covered in the index. compare http://www.gravestonephotos.com/public/cemetery.php?cemetery=206&limit=51 with http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/FamilyHistory/Photos/Kilkivan-Kilkivan/ Ah, perhaps the key is on http://www.gravestonephotos.com/public/about.php ... Because of the huge scale of the project Charles decided at the outset to restrict the photographs to just those monuments that contain details of people who were born before 1901.
