Good morning List, I have just rejoined after a long trip in the UK gathering information on the forbears and now would like to clarify some details about the above area. When my grandparents [Thomas William WOOF and Winifred WINDER) married on 25th April 1913, the marriage certificat states the location and Emerald Hill, Gunnedah. The witnesses were Margaret H Lomas, Alma M Foreman so I feel that they may have been some local people There does not appear to have been any othere family members with them at the time. It is quite interesting that they came out separately from Lancaster to travel to Gunnedah to marry and live for a few years. Is/was this a village in that time or the name of a property? What sort of industry took place at that time? I have a feeling that there might have been a dairy as my grandfather worked on a farm in Lancaster. My uncle - Geoge WOOF was born in the area on 5 Sep 1913 My father - Jack WOOF was also born in the are on 19 Oct 1914 Between 1914 and 1915 they left the area to come to Sydney where their next child was born If anyone has any information regarding the area/district or property or some vague recollection of the names I would be ever so grateful to receive it. Thank you in advance and anticipation Glenn gwoof@netspace.net.au
Hello Glenn Saw your posting and as I have been doing the 1903 Gunnedah Polling lists for the AIGS Millenium Project I checked the data you gave against it. No WOOF or WINDER for that period but the name FOREMAN appears with Agnes (domestic duties) being mentioned twice and George (carter) once both of Gunndah. LOMAS does not appear on the list. Emerald Hill appears under the surname as follows: McDONALD Eldred Andes selector McDONALD Helena George boarding house keeper.
