In 1906 PSNCo was acquired by the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company and the service became known as the Orient-Royal Mail Line but this arrangement terminated in 1909. In 1919 the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) acquired a controlling interest in the Orient Line. The Australia service was extended to New Zealand in 1938. In 1965 P&O acquired the whole of the Orient Line shareholding and the company became a P&O subsidiary. The Orient Line name was dropped in 1966 and thenceforward disappeared.
