Some time ago some one was asking about Benevolent Societies in one of the above, I picked up today in a book sale on remainder a book called 'Poverty Abounding Charity a Plenty; The Charity Network in colonial Victoria ' by R.A.Cage. Hale and Iremonger 1992. It looks at Migrant Aid societies,Benevolent Societies, Ladies Benevolent Societies and in an appendix lists all the charitable institutions in Victoria in 1901 including thier date of establishment where known. I have only flicked through it, an academic text but worth an interlibrary loan if looking for that sort of information. Elizabeth A.Roberts
