Would anyone have any information on the ship 'AUSTRAL' that reached Sydney in possibly June 1899 or again in December 1899. Also an unknown Orient Steam ship that arrived in August 1900. Regards, Mary
Hello Mary. There was a steamship named Austral which sank in Neutral Bay , Sydney Harbour, on 11.11.1882. She took a heavy list when coaling, and water poured into her with the loss of 5 lives. She was refloated in Febraury 1883 but I don't know what happened to her after that. Hope this helps. This was an Orient Line ship of 553t . Its mentioned in all 3 vols of the Log of Logs . The Mitchell Library has some info re its 1892 voyage ( ref Q 901 45 18 ). The La Trobe Library also appears to have something .
