This was on 21st October, 1830. On 13-12-1835, Samuel Caldwell (although R.C.) married Isabella Spence at the C.of E. Church, Maitland. Isabella's parents were William Spence, a soldier of the 71st Regiment and Ellen Down(e)s. He was stationed at Limerick, Ireland for a period of time. Ellen was baptised 1819 at Limerick. James was baptised 11-12-1821, Limerick. John baptised 8-7-1823 at Limerick. It is not known if Ellen Downs was Irish or not. When they came to Australia on board the ship "Mail" in 1832 they departed from Scotland and it is thought the Spences were Scotch. Anyone who has any connection or knowledge of this family, please contact me. Peg Whiteman, Mooloolaba, Q'ld., Australia.
