    3. Hello to the List Years ago the "Mail Trains" had a van attached called a Traveling Post Office (TPO) and mail was sorted on route both from and to Sydney NSW I lived in Moree and the mail that came from the TPO had a code N7 this was the bag or bin in the TPO van and made sorting by hand quicker as all mail into Moree had with it the ongoing smaller towns in the area that the mail contractor delivered to, and to the road mail boxes along the road. Mail in the N7 area included places like Pallamallawa Garah Boggabilla and Mungindi From memory the N7 Area covered from Gurley in the south to the Queensland border on the two branch lines out of Moree . Inverell had a different number N8 from memory along with Narrabri and its branch lines having its own number N5. The "N" was for the North West Mail and the designation of the Moree Traveling Post Office was TPO NW N7 DOWN coming out of Sydney and TPO N7 UP going out of Moree to Sydney This applied to all TPO vans S being South SW being South West and so on Maybe this is the "S" reference Regards John Shirley & John Smith Maitland Area Lower Hunter Valley NSW Australia -----Original Message----- From: Colin Jeffery POTTER [mailto:colinjeffery@iprimus.com.au] Sent: Friday, June 16, 2006 12:50 PM To: AUSTRALIA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [AUST] Assistance required Hi List, I lived in Williamstown in Victoria and the old Postcode was W16 which then changed to 3016, hoe this helps, Colin Potter in Sunny Queensland (4053) Colin Jeffery Potter, searching for Potter,Preston,Bloodworth,Fowler,Thorpe in Rutlandshire England, Potter,Hurst,Orr,McNally,McMaster Wilson and Hackett in County Tyrone Northern Ireland ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eliz Cook" <divaandwillow@yahoo.com.au> To: <AUSTRALIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 16, 2006 11:29 AM Subject: Re: [AUST] Assistance required > ==== AUSTRALIA Mailing List ==== The address for posting any message to any Rootsweb list is ALWAYS LISTNAME-L@rootsweb.com ============================== Search the US Census Collection.
