Dear Listers Whilst on the subject of the name KEARNS I thought I would see if anyone may be researching James KEARNS who married Jane HYNES nee SHAW in Longford, Tasmania in 1863. Jane was born Forres, Scotland and arrived in Australia in 1859 with her son Alexander age 2 years. James was a convict born John Kelly, Dublin, Ireland, sentenced to 7 years, but it appears he changed his name to James KEARNS at some time during his extended sentencing. He was 25 years of age when sentenced in 1844, was Roman Catholic and could read a little. James & Jane had 2 boys Thomas & William.
