Hi Listers, I have just added some images of the identity cards of my mother and step-father from World War 2 and beyond. My step-father's was stamped in 1951 after they had moved house, presumably. When were the cards introduced and how long were they in use? Were you ever stopped to have yours checked or do you still have yours? Whilst on the subject of war I am still looking for memories of the war from ex residents of the old Meadows. If you have any, why not share them and send them to me at [email protected] Regards Paul Visit my web site for ex residents of the old Meadows area of Nottingham at www.theoldmeadows.co.uk
Dear Paul, My mother's ID card is not dated however if has the information that there are also 3 children for ration books. I do not know when ration books began but the 3 children is some indication as I am an only child. My parents took in 2 Welsh evacuees who arrived in October 1940 and were with us until March 1947 so the card I have fits that period. My guess is that they were issued possibly when the Japanese entered the war, at the latest. I did not realise they were issued as late as 1951.
