Hi everyone I know I ask a lot of questions but I suppose that is the only way to learn how to do things. I have recently been researching my husbands family tree and have just found out that his grandmother (now deceased) was not the natural child of her so called parents. I believe that formal adoption did not start until 1929 and was wondering if you could tell me if fostering records prior to this exist. I do know that the person I am searching for (Ivy Mena) would have been born in or around 1914 and that she was fostered from an orphanage in South Melbourne (quite possibly catholic). Her foster parents were Arthur and Rose Andrews which was the surname she grew up with. I have heard a rumour that she had a brother with the name Barker or Baker. I have spent a bit of time researching the Andrews line as I had thought this was her biological family. Now it turns out that they are not so I am back where I began. I have absolutely no idea where to start with researching this situation so any direction anyone can point me in as far as records to search would be greatly appreciated.
