Hi Hazel, Neville & listers, BOMBOWLEE does not show up on the map that Neville sent the URL for. Reginald's parents also had children registered at BATLOW, which today still has a postcode but it does not show up on the map either. Another suggestion try www.multimap.com.au Both BOMBOWLEE & BATLOW show up on the multimap. BOMBOWLEE is in or near the KOSCIUSKO NATIONAL PARK & BATLOW near the OLD TUMBARUMBA ROAD which eventually runs into GREENHILLS ROAD. OLD TUMBARUMBA ROAD / GEENHILLS ROAD, WONDALGA ROAD & BATLOW ROAD all intersect WONDALGA. BATLOW ROAD continues on to WINDOWEE then interects with EAST GILMORE ROAD to the SNOWY MOUNTAINS HIGHWAY. Possibly both towns have been "swallowed up" by TUMUT or one of the surrounding areas. I know a lot of places, like WOORAGEE near BEECHWORTH, that were towns have disappeared over the years and simply show up on maps as "locality" In 1903 mother Amy is at BATLOW and a Henry J. listed at HILLSIDE, BARGO. Henry is listed as a "Farmer". The area is, or was, an apple growing area if I recall correctly so maybe the family were farming and also growing fruit. Regards, Dorne. Using www.multimap.com.au type in Foords Lane and Bombowlee and select NSW and presto - you will see it is not far from Tumut. Bombowlee is a locality, really close to Tumut. I have been there unbeknowance to me until this moment. There are orchards on the hill side along Foords Lane - it is really pretty there. Visit http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/pictoria/b/1/1/doc/b11006.shtml for a photo of Bombowlee Lane, Tumut. Batlow is a town in its own right, still in existence, a reasonable distance south of Tumut, and is reknowed as an apple growing area - to date supermarkets still stock Batlow apples. Using www.multimap.com.au type in Pioneer Street or Batlow which will bring up the town. Bargo is just south of Sydney, off the Hume Hwy - I don't recall it ever being an apple growing region (there is a chance I may be wrong about that of course). Down the road a bit closer to Mittagong at Yerrinbool there are apple orchards which have been in existence for over thirty years, and closer to Goulburn at Wingello and Tallong, there are a couple of apple orchards. Wingello and Tallong use to be a very big orchard area in the early 1900s. Around the Thirlmere and Tahmoor areas, next towns north of Bargo there were a lot of poultry sheds - as I understand it many Estonian migrants came there about the 1940s rounghly and ran poultry operations. This has since died out a great deal. There are Quarmby's buried at either, Batlow Cemetery, possibly Tumut and Adelong too. Hope this information helps.
