Dear Listers, I am new to the list, live in Sydney and have just been chasing an ancestor who arrived in Melbourne in 1853 from Cheshire. I had excellent help from the staff at the Melbourne Archives and similar treatment when we went to Bendigo, which is where Thomas BOFFEY lived and died. Thomas married Eliza MERRIFIELD in 1863 in Bendigo. I have Eliza's death certificate from 1901 where it states that she was 1 year in WA, 1 year in NSW and 48 years in Victoria. So,she arrived in WA in 1850/1851 at the age of 14. I would like some advice on how to find out more about this. At the State Library here, the records don't seem to cover this time for passengers. I couldn't find any trace of the name in the BMD for the area, so what is next? She was born in Clerkenwell, London to Joseph Daniel MERRIFIELD and Matilda BILLINGTON. Unfortunately, there is no sign of them on IGI. Lilian Andrew
