I have been checking births on fiche of the Queensland B.D.&M and came across some entries of my ancestors that showed the name and the letters MB. The entry also shows 27/ (then a number), not the year of birth like all the others. Could someone please tell me what this type of entry means. TIA Karen Burgemeister
Hi Karen, MB refers to a memorandum of birth. This is usually done when the birth of the child is recorded some years later. Check the year that your rellie was born and then check the first lot of numbers in the reference number. You will probably find that the person was born in 1927 (for example) and the reference number starts with 1929/etc and end with MB. I understand that this means that the person was born in 1927 but the birth was recorded in 1929.
