    3. I have a ggg -Alexander CAMPBELL who drowned on 25 December 1846 - he is buried at Mortis St Old Cemerty Goulburn (no headstone) and is late of Frogs Hole. Two questions - one does Frog Hole still exsist in the Goulburn area. two: you would think there would have been an inquest - if so does anyone know where that would have taken place and by who and records kept? Interesting he drowned and was buried on the same day - what were the newspapers around at that time and how could I 'look up' to see if he rated a mention? with many thanks Colleen Central Coast

    3. Hi Inquests could be held anywhere - the inquest on one of our relatives was held in the nearest pub just after the drowning! Inquest documents are held at the state Public Record Office. You would have to contact them to find out how they are organised. In Victoria there is a reading room in the offices at Casselton Place but most documents have to be ordered in from the Archives. Access to them is quite easy here in Victoria. To find something in the papers contact your State Library newspaper room and ask what they would suggest. Their holdings are likely to be much more extensive than you would imagine. As which paper would have covered that area at that time. It is hard to know if he would have made the news in one of the major newspapers but local ones were very comprehensive.
