    3. Hello Denise. Yes it was our first kidnapping although there have been others since. It was horrific and happened when a Hungarian migrant Stephen Leslie Bradley (don't know his real name) captured the little boy Grahame Thorne, and held him for ransom, because the Thornes had won one of our first large lotteries, a prize of $200,000, which was a very large amount of money in those days. That was in 1960. He put him into the boot of his car where Grahame expired. It was interesting to find the way they traced the murderer through dog hairs on the rug in which Grahame had been wrapped. Bradley made a hasty getaway and was found on board the ship 'Himalaya' in Colombo and extradited to Sydney where he stood trial and was sentenced to life. He had to be kept away from other prisoners as they have their own code of ethics and child murder was not accepted. Bradley worked in the library at Goulburn Gaol and died of a heart attack in 1968 at the age of 45.
