    1. [AUS] Tas Convicts Transfers and Loans Index 1835 online

    3. The following is an index to convicts in Tasmania who were transferred, or loaned out to employers, in the year 1835, through the Convict Assignment Board. They were generally skilled convicts (mechanics) such as plasterers, bricklayers, carpenters, unholsterers, even the odd book binder. The transfer and loan lists usually provides the name of a convict, their assigned number, employer and/or former employer, occupation with new employer, sometimes the extension of time allowed to the employer for this convict if a particular job was not yet finished. Each convict is usually identified by their ship name, or assigned convict number, (I have found the odd error in assignment numbers, so they should not be relied upon entirely to identify a convict). These lists can help to fill in a convict's whereabouts, or occupation, during certain periods of time in the penal system, which is not commonly recorded on their conduct record. They should act as a supplement to records such as CONDUCT, INDENT and DESCRIPTION records, which can be obtained through the Archives Office of Tasmania. http://www.genseek.net/tctl35a.htm cheers Jenny Fawcett
