Hi I am another of the quiet ones - I am still searching for my father's family. His name was Leonard Austin - he was born 20th June 1896 in Melbourne (or that is what he believed). His parents were John Edward Austin and Elizabeth (or Mary?) nee Leonard. He had a brother killed in WW1 - and yes I have checked records in Australian War Memorial etc etc and cannot find Dad. He married my mother, Violet Ann Yeo, at Gulgong in 1933 and I have the Yeo line back to the period of Charlemagne - they were very good record keepers. I suspect that Dad may have been brought up by grandparents? or another family member. I have some details - he did attend Geelong Grammar - but the records for that period just aren't with a few exceptions. One suggestion was Leonard Austin Meyers - one Austin girl married a Meyer and that may be a link. Dad did mention that he had two sisters and I did write down their names about forty years ago but that piece of paper is long gone. HELP! On Mum's side we are descended from second fleet convict Edward Merrick and his wife (3rd Fleet) Mary Russell. Their eldest daughter born 14th March 1795 married Robert Martin Jr (cf Expermient 1804). Other names in the matriarchal side are Cooper (Charles - convict - & wife Alse); William Price (Oceon 1816); Chapman; Garbutt etc. Thanks Ann
