    3. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who is researching GEORGE PENNINGTON, former convict, who in 1829 was put on trial for theft. He was accused of robbing one Henry Harris, who I suspect is my missing convict ancestor. best wishes Jenny Fawcett

    3. Hello Listers I know this is a question for the Tasmania List but I am hoping that a lister may have records of Cornelian Bay & Kingston Cemeteries in Tasmania as I cannot get my CD to work. I am looking for the death of William KEARNS d 7.6.1888 age 76 at Launceston also William KEARNS d 25.5.1883 age [81] at New Norfolk. I have looked on the Carrvilla cemetery CD but have been unable to find either William buried there. I would appreciate it if a list may be able to help me with a look up please for either William KEARNS. Thank you in advance Joan

    1. [AUS] Nick Vine Hall Tribute
    2. Pam Dowling
    3. I'm deeply saddened to hear today of the death of Nick Vine Hall, and wanted to pay a tribute to him and his prodigous contribution to genealogy. What an inspirational man! I never met him, or even heard any of his broadcasts, but have always profoundly admired him for his work, although I am familiar with only a tiny part of it. Publications such as his "Parish Registers in Australia", "Tracing Your Family History in Australia - A Guide to Sources" and the Ships' Pictures Fiche in their various editions have been invaluable to me over the years, and the advent of the internet hasn't changed the need for such resources. I think every genealogist should have copies of them, yet so few these days even seem to know they exist. Convict research, of course, is just one aspect of the information in these books. When using these resources, often I've tried to imagine the vast amount of work, the logistics and patience require to gather, assemble organise and publish such information, and then a few years later do all the checking, updating and additions. I'm in awe of what Nick Vine Hall has achieved, and hope that his legacy to genealogy will always be acknowledged and appreciated. Of course, these are only three of his many publications - there are many others. And his contribution to SAG, on which I'm not qualified to comment, was probably equally enormous. I would like to extend sincere sympathy to Nick's family, friends and his colleagues in genealogy. He will be greatly missed, and is a tremendous loss to us all in the genealogy community. Thank you Nick. Requesiat in Pace Pam Dowling An Aussie transplanted to Rotorua, NZ

    3. Hello I am hoping someone maybe able to help me locate the family especially parents of MARY ANN MELDRUM. Mary married Nelson Simmons Lawson on 12 Dec 1890 at the Baptist Church, Petersham NSW. I have the possibility of her father as JAMES MELDRUM and mother Eliza ? I cannot seem to locate a death on her but Nelson died 1912 at Mudgee NSW. Regards Hazel

    1. [AUS] my surnames

    3. Hi I am another of the quiet ones - I am still searching for my father's family. His name was Leonard Austin - he was born 20th June 1896 in Melbourne (or that is what he believed). His parents were John Edward Austin and Elizabeth (or Mary?) nee Leonard. He had a brother killed in WW1 - and yes I have checked records in Australian War Memorial etc etc and cannot find Dad. He married my mother, Violet Ann Yeo, at Gulgong in 1933 and I have the Yeo line back to the period of Charlemagne - they were very good record keepers. I suspect that Dad may have been brought up by grandparents? or another family member. I have some details - he did attend Geelong Grammar - but the records for that period just aren't with a few exceptions. One suggestion was Leonard Austin Meyers - one Austin girl married a Meyer and that may be a link. Dad did mention that he had two sisters and I did write down their names about forty years ago but that piece of paper is long gone. HELP! On Mum's side we are descended from second fleet convict Edward Merrick and his wife (3rd Fleet) Mary Russell. Their eldest daughter born 14th March 1795 married Robert Martin Jr (cf Expermient 1804). Other names in the matriarchal side are Cooper (Charles - convict - & wife Alse); William Price (Oceon 1816); Chapman; Garbutt etc. Thanks Ann

    3. Hi all, In amongst some small photos from my father is one of a large headstone with wrought iron surround for John MORGANS died 25 February 1882 aged 60 years. There are other headstones around it, and what appears to be a paddock in the background. I don't know of any family connection, or why he had the photo. There is a Victorian death of a John MORGANS in 1882 aged 50, perhaps an error in the Pioneer Index transcription ? If anyone can claim a connection I am happy to send a scan by email, not great quality as the original photo was very small, but the headstone is quite legible. 3. Hi Ray, Not often you come across someone with Irish Bolton's mostly they seem to be from England. Mine aren't from Wexford but Sligo, but I do only have one generation from there, so its worth an ask. Would you happen to have a Henry and Anne Bolton, I have no idea how many children they had but do know they had a Peter b abt 1845 and Edward b abt 1846 who arrived in Aus 1862 and Nan remembers a George and I believe there were others in NSW, with the middle name of Paulet.
