Happy New Year Gail: Was wondering if you could extract a listing like this one from the Pioneer Index for the surname "Rainey". They were from N. Ireland and Scotland. The majority of the family went to Australia and one brother came to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the U.S. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hello Joan My mother-in-law is a Sadler from Geelong. I haven't found a Stewart in my search so far though. Is there anything I can help you with? I'm on holidays at the moment in Geelong but am only checking my email every few days. All of my family tree information is at home in Kalgoorlie. Hello I omitted to note the name of the church in Brisbane in February 1871 where my grandfather Henry Christian THOMPSON was baptised. The minister at the time was D.A. COURT. Would anyone be able to tell me the church please. The family lived at Kangaroo Point and although Henry's father was Lutheran I think all the children were baptised C/E. Thank you for your assistance. Joan in NSW
Hello Listers Are there any shipping list sites for arrivals and departures Adelaide, SA on line please as I am looking for an AB names Andrew THOMPSON born Norway who may possibly be a crewman on the ship "LADY ANN' in 1857 and 1859. Hello Listers I have recently found that my gg grandfather William STEWART/STUART, his wife 2nd wife Helen nee GRANT and their two daughters Mary & Frances arrived in Geelong on the "CHILDE HAROLD" in June 1853. They appear to have lived in the GEELONG area from that time and I have found a death for Helen STEWART nee Grant at Geelong in 1910. Would anyone be able to help with burial records for GEELONG in the hope that Helen, and her husband William who died 19 Apr 1869 may be buried there. William's death record states he died at Mortlake and he was a farmer. Also would there be funeral notices for that area please? I am hoping there may be some mention of my great grandfather Alexander STEWART, son of William above and his first wife Jane who died possibly in childbirth when Alexander was born. I cannot find an entry for Alexander into Victoria, however he married in Sale in 1873 to Mary Ann ELLIOT and they had 2 daughters before moving to Orange, NSW. I feel that Alexander may have been in Victoria long before his marriage to Mary Ann. Thank you for any assistance or advice in the above. Kind regards Joan in NSW, Australia.
I can't help about details but would take the death information with a grain of salt. It is not that whoever gave the details was trying to hide anything - its probably that's what they thought. When my father died in 1976 I put on his certificate that he married at Dunedoo - Mum later before her death gave me her marriage certificate - they actually married at Gulgong. Particularly in the early days the past was not always discussed - I know nothing about my paternal grandparents and my aunts on that side of the family - never spoken about. I am trying to weave my way through information both factual (birth certificate) and doubtful ( death certificate). Charles Walter Leggett was born in London about 1831. He was in Melbourne in 1843.(death certificate 1890 said he had been in Vic for 37 years) His son, Walter Albert, was born in SA in 1870(birth certificate). Charles W married Mary Symonds (time and place unknown). If information I have is accurate, Charles arrived in Australia in 1843. I also have Annie Eyrl who arrive from England with her parents (another funny story). She married Walter Leggett in Melbourne in 1861. her death certificate says she was 1 year in SA and the rest in Victoria. If this is true she arrived in 1848. Her parents are James and Martha Eyrl. Any information about these families, especially their arrival time and place would help me greatly!! Regards, Lyn Nelan Sydney

From my limited use of these records I think they are alot more accessible than NSW records as births on CD have been out ages to 1920 and on line to, I think, 1925 Deaths out of CD and on line to 1985 and you can down load copy all for $17.50. per record .
