    3. I'm in England, UK, searching for a school friend of mine LUCIE REYNOLDS (previously SEWELL - her mother remarried) who emigrated with her family, aged about 10yrs old from England to Australia in the early 1970's. The last two addresses I have for her are as follows: 17 Macauley St Leichhardt NSW 2040 AND 28 Nalya Rd Narraweena NSW 2099 Lucie had a brother Adam, a sister Sharon and a younger sibling whose name I can't remember. If anyone knows of her or her family I would love to get in touch with her again. -- Best Wishes Angela <boon.bluecats@dtn.ntl.com> Pettistree Homepage http://www.pettistree.suffolk.gov.uk/

    1. Convict Index explanation
    2. Joan Fawcett
    3. I have been queried as to the many listing of appointments to the Police Force as listed in the Convict Indexes, and hope the listers will allow me a small explanation It was VERY common, for convicts to speed their way through the convict system, by taking a short cut and applying to be a patrolman/wardsman/conductor etc, in the police force. With good behaviour, and application to the position's duties, a convict could shorten their sentence length, and if involved in something heroic, may even be allowed a Free Pardon, Certificate of Freedom and etc. I have listed so many appointments as many of the policemen were previously convicts. The other thing in regard to convicts, that may assist in research, is that the majority of them treasured their final freedom, [bearing in mind though that a percentage consistently was reconvicted on matters small and large which resulted in their sentences being extended] but for the majority, to be free, with a piece of paper to ensure the same, was the ultimate goal, it enabled them to start improving their life style, manner, financial situation etc. http://www.standard.net.au/~jwilliams/scons34.htm all the best Jenny Fawcett

    1. Drednought Boys to NSW
    2. Joe Bissett
    3. Hi Listers, Can anyone point me to genealogical information concerning the Drednought Boys immigration program to New South Wales? I'm particularly interested in a group of approximately 350 boys who left England, possibly the Dover area, in early 1914. I would also be interested in any shipping information, especially a continuation voyage from NSW to Melbourne. My GF Frederick Edward PIGGOTT chaparoned this group, but ended up in the 51st Regiment (reserve) in Albertville, Melbourne by June 1914. He was discharged from the Royal Garrison Artillery on 7 January 1914 and then spent an unknown amount of time in Dover prior to leaving for Australia. Thanks for any help, Joe

    2. Dear Listers SUSSEX TO VICTORIA PROJECT: Can you trace your Victoria family's roots back to Sussex, England? I am compiling, with a view to publishing, a biographical account of free emigrants from Sussex to Port Phillip District / Victoria. * At least one member of the family must have been born in the county of Sussex * The time-frame is restricted to emigration before 1901 * Convict emigrants are excluded If you would like more details of the project please contact me. 1. NELAN
    2. carolyn nelan
    3. Could I please ask in desperation for any information in any state other than NSW on any NELAN. The first NELANs came to NSW from the 1840s on but some have disappeared - no marriage or death recorded in NSW. I am especially interested in MICHAEL NELAN, MAURICE NELAN and EDWARD NELAN. They were assisted migrants so probably could not afford to go back to Ireland. Regards, Lyn, Sydney
