Good morning all, I am writing to let everyone know of the changes which have just taken place within the Pacific and AustraliaGenWeb projects. PACIFIC GENWEB PROJECT The Regional Coordinator of the PacificGenWeb has changed as of today 12/11/00. Due to increased and demanding work commitments, I have had to stand down from the postion. I would like to thank everyone who has helped or who has contributed to the project during the past 2 years in which I have held the position. The new Regional Coordinator of PacificGenWeb is Leith Hutton of New Zealand. I would like to thank him too, for his assistance in the past and wish him well in the future, and would ask that you all continue to support the efforts of those involved in this very worthwhile project. URL: - http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacifgw/ AUSTRALIA GENWEB PROJECT From today - 12/11/00, the National Coordination of the main AustraliaGenWeb project will be managed by myself with the assistance (long distance) of Nathan Zipfel. Some of you may know of Nate - he is the Chairman of the WorldGenWeb project world-wide, and is Coordinator of the British Isles GenWeb project, along with a number of US state projects which are part of USGenWeb. Whilst I will continue to maintain the website while I am home, Nate will be an additional contact point for the site via email, and will be able to add page links etc to the site. He will also help me to maintain the various state and territory sites which as yet do not have coordinators of their own. Hello List, I have been having problems getting emails to the mailing lists, but thanks to rootsweb, I think we have our problem solved, so my reply to E.A. Roberts was a while getting to the list. However, good to see Grahame has picked up on the issues at stake and got discussion rolling, thank you Grahame. There are some bits that Grahame left out. Firstly, the concern with the draft of the State Records Act, is that there is no provisiion being made for appeal. This means that if this Act is legislated, once records are closed, they will stay closed. There is also concern with the draft of the Privacy and Personal Informaion Protection Act, as the draft code for research using using government records ignores access for community researchers. To write about the State Records Act - Access Provisions you write to The Hon R.J. Carr, MP, Premier and Minister for the Arts Level 40, Governor Macquarie Tower, SYDNEY. NSW 2000 You write to The Hon B Debus, MP, Attorney-General re the Privacy and Personal Information Act. I suggest people look at the Queensland situation by going to www.historyaustralia.org.au/ifhaa. The situation is well documented here and there are also some reasons you could use to insert in your letter of concern. Grahame was after suggestions. The above issues not only concern family historians, but all historians and researchers. Not only do we need to write, but as family history groups, perhaps we could band together and hold meetings, as suggested to me, and let their politicans know exactly what you want from them. I feel it is vital that all individual family historians act and a loud voice be heard. If you plan to hold such a meeting, please let the publisher of AFTC know about it and it will get advertised in the magazine. Regards, Jan

Dear Listers, Does anyone have a connection with Donald John Morgan BROWN, flight sergeant, RAAF, died Dec 22 1943? Among old photos I have found 5 taken at 3 different times of his grave in the Oxford (Botley) Cemetery in Oxford UK. They must have been important to my mother who died more than 20 years ago. There are no relatives alive who could enlighten me. My maternal grandmother's maiden name was BROWN and I knew only of 1 sister. They were children of Richard and Margaret (born Scotland) and from the NSW BDM index I have found 4 possible brothers to carry on the BROWN surname - John, James, Richard and David, the last born in 1874. I have checked the War Graves Commission site and his parents are named as William Henry George and Verley BROWN of Randwick. There are numerous William Henry and William H and just William in the births but not to Richard and Margaret. Seeking knowledge of long lost relatives - and better still, the rellies themselves.
