    3. Hi List, I have been searching for my GGGrandmother so I am wondering if some kind person could do some lookups for me her name was: SHARP Mary Ann she married Robert Sharp in 1866 in Geelong Vic. Robert died in 1879, and no trace has been found of her since. I feel she may have remarried as she was only a young woman at the time of Roberts death but I have't been able to find her in Victoria, so I am wondering if she moved and remarried interstate. Her maiden name was WALTON and her parents were WALTON William and Amelia. Mary Ann was born in Old Hobart Town approx. 1851. Any help I can receive on her would be greatly appreciated and would help me close a chapter missing for so long. Regards, Roy/

    3. Hi Keith, The 1852 voyage of the Ticonderoga seems to be well documented in Florence Chuk's book "The Somerset Years". It sounds like it was a most tragic voyage with much loss of life due to disease outbreaks. Definitely worth reading Florence's account. regards Kay ----- Original Message ----- From: "Francis Herbert Thom" <FThom@bigpond.com> To: <AUSTRALIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 19, 2010 1:19 PM Subject: Re: Ship Ticonderoga?? 1852 Kay family > Hi Keith, > > While researching my family history I found that a Frederick and Harriet > MANUEL and their children were noted to have entered the Port of Melbourne > (1852/3) from the ship Ticonderoga. 2. Judy Evans
    3. Hello, Thank you to all who replied to my query. I rechecked the certificate and yes that is what the occupation was. Someone suggested it may have been wrongly transcribed and I am beginning to agree. I had a lot of trouble with the NSW BDM in getting the certificate actually and there are a couple of things on it that I question. Anyway thanks again to everyone for their help. Judy

A "Tallyman" (as in "Hey Mr Tallyman, tally me bananas") is the chap who keeps track of cargo being loaded or unloaded from a ship. In later years on Australian wharves called a "tally clerk". I think your groom has been mis-described or mis-transcribed. 3. I bought my copy of a Latin/English Translation Dictionary from a local newsagent in Melbourne some time ago now but the on-line translation sounds a much better idea. You can also try http://dictionaries.travlang.com/EnglishLatin/ The title that I have anyway is Langenscheidt Shorter Latin Dictionary Latin English English Latin by Handford & Herberg Pub by Hodder & Stoughton It has a yellow vinyl cover and is only one of a series of translation booklets all by the same publisher. Hope this info helps someone. regards Julie Meereek ----- Original Message ----- From: citysafaris test <citysafaris@one.net.au> To: <AUSTRALIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 16, 2000 3:32 PM Subject: Re: LATIN DICTIONARY > Hazel it's pretty hard to translate Latin into English just using a > dictionary. 2. Robyn & Robert Kelly
    3. Hello listers, I've been researching a problem and now need to see if anyone can help, or direct me where to find this information. From some Wardship papers it has been identified that an ancestor was working at "Bulgandra Station" in NSW. I have had a look at the map and find that there is a Bulgandry just outside of Albury (northwest). Would anyone know if there was a Station by that name circa 1917-1918 in that area or where could I find this information? Thanks for your help.
