Hi Kerrie, There is a good site you can look at http://awairs.slnsw.gov.au/infoquick/welcome.htm, look at INFOKOORI. You can also search http://unicorn.aiatsis.gov.au/index.html Other sites: State Library of NSW http://www.slnsw.gov.au State Records Office of NSW http://.records.nsw.gov.au Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/bdm Search with last name and no first name, and visa versa. Also Aboriginal as first name, with Pitt, Phillips or Moon. Also first name Isabella and Aboriginal as last. I also have local areas in NSW web sites if you would like them. If you tell me which State, I will forward the phone number of someone who can help you. Regards Tanya Sydney
check out the website http://www.netspace.net.au/~ruzoz/Ticonderoga_1.htm You will get the following which is only part of the article On 4 August 1852 in Liverpool, 795 migrants, predominantly Highland Scots, boarded the vessel, the Ticonderoga. With a huge labour shortage in the Australian colony, brought about by the discovery of Gold in New South Wales in 1851, and the relaxation of emigration rules regarding the number of children allowed to travel, thousands of emigrants clamored for transport to Victoria. They were humble folk and looking forward to a new life in the "Lucky Country". Little did they know that this was to be one of the most dramatic and tragic voyages to Australia. .............................. ----- Original Message ----- From: Kay McCullough <mccullou@netspace.net.au> To: <AUSTRALIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, 19 November 2000 2:12 Subject: Re: Ship Ticonderoga?? 1852 Kay family > Hi Keith, > > The 1852 voyage of the Ticonderoga seems to be well documented in Florence > Chuk's book "The Somerset Years". Does anyone know of a place in Victoria, possibly in either the Shire of Whittlesea or Bright called Mortbere? I cannot locate this in any of my maps. I have a photograph of a hay harvest by the MANN family labelled at the side: Foxcroft's Gooch St. Mortbere? "The Mechanical Eye" reveals a Frank FOXCROFT at Bright, Victoria 1899-1900. But I am under the understanding that this photo is within the Shire of Whittlesea, Vic. The photo can be viewed at: http://yprl.vic.gov.au/yprl/ptpimage/Lhc52.jpg although the photographers details have not been scanned. I would like to confirm an approximate date and the location Mortbere? Thanks for your reply, It was worth a try, my Kennedys came from Kilkenny and Tipperary. I might try to contact the Geelong historical society to find out more about the Kennedys there. If anyone from Geelong connected to the Kennedys from Kilkenny or Tipperary reads this I would like to hear about them. I am looking for the burial of my great-grandfather, John THOMPSON, who died on 9 May 1861 whilst living at Woolloomoolo. I don't know where he is buried but would like to find his grave as I will be visiting Sydney next month. He may not have been buried at the local cemetery (which ever that may be) as he was Deputy Surveyor-General for NSW at the time of his death so, perhaps, there was a 'fashionable' cemetery at the time. I am also seeking the burial of his widow, Anne Mary THOMPSON (nee Windeyer) who died on 23 February 1893. I am sorry the information I have is rather vague. Any help gratefully received. This is the last of my flurry of burial enquiries. I hope that, with your help, the last resting places of these ancestors can be located. Thanks Elizabeth Leicester, UK
I would like to find where my great-grandfather was cremated in 1946. Norman Bohun RALSTON died at Parramatta Hospital on 8 April. His widow was living at Wentworthville. Does anybody have any idea where I could try to find the crematorium? The widow, Ann RALSTON (nee Collins) died on 6 April 1950. She was living at Wentworthville. Can anybody suggest where I should seek her burial? It could, of course, be that she was also cremated at the same place as Norman. This information was taken from the two death notices in the newspapers. I will posting queries regarding other family burials - I hope nobody minds too many questions all at once. I am looking for the burial of Edith Windeyer RALSTON (nee Thompson) who died on 13 September 1917. The notice of her death says she was living at Ashfield and was going to be buried at Enfield cemetery. Can anybody tell me where that is and, perhaps, anything about her grave? I am hoping to be able to visit it (if it can be found) next month. I will posting queries regarding other family burials - I hope nobody minds too many questions all at once. Elizabeth Leicester, UK
I am looking for the burial of Alexander James RALSTON who died on 2 May 1889. I understand that he is buried at Rookwood. I am lucky enough to be in Sydney for a few days next month and would like to visit his grave. I will posting queries regarding other family burials - I hope nobody minds too many questions all at once. Many thanks Elizabeth Leicester, UK
Can somebody tell me whether Mary A B McKay (nee Mark) is buried in the Armidale cemetery? She died in 1890 (I don't know the exact date). Her husband's name was Raimy and they appeared to have lived in Armidale or Uralla through the 1870' and 1880's. Their children were all born in Uralla. Raimy was present at his father-in-law's death in Armidale in 1883. I am particularly interested as I should have an opportunity to drive through Armidale next month and would like to see the grave of this ancestor if possible. Many thanks Elizabeth Leicester, UK
Advice please. Can I find out anything about a man called James MARK who died in 1883? (I know where he is buried in Armidale). On his death certificate he is listed as an innkeeper living in Beardy Street. He was in his 70's when he died. Elizabeth Leicester, UK

Hi All I am in need of a bit of help to help my cousin find her ggggrandmother. Her ggggrandfather was married twice (maybe) and she believes that the second marriage if there was one as we can't find one was to a Aborigine. I don't want to offend anyone but can some please tell me how to go about finding her. Her name was Isabella Pitt or Phillips and he was James Moon. Would anyone know how if she was Aboriginal how she would of been recorded in BDM's. He was born in 1840 and died in 1881 and they had four children. Any help would be more than greatfully appreciated. Thank you all for your time. Regards Kerrie
Folks Hi I am helping my distant rellie confirm a name which crops up in the family history, but we don't know where from. Can someone please confirm birth of one Ollie May or perhaps Olive May JARVIS. Is anyone able to provide birth (mid-late 1800's) and confirm parents. It is thought parents would be Frederick Jarvis and Emily (nee Haeffner) Thanks Denise ###################################### Denise Marriott McMahon - ex Melbourne 21 years Brisbane Queensland - Searching - CONWAY - County Clare and N.E.
