    1. FFHS Award
    2. John Snelson
    3. Folks, The Federation of Family History Societies will be making an award in June 2001 to the member society with the best website. The winning society will receive £100, kindly donated as an annual award by Family Tree Magazine. The winner and runners-up will be able to display the FFHS Web Award emblem on their web sites. How to enter Societies can enter by email to David Hawgood - email hawgood@one-name.org - who is the co-ordinator for the award. There will be a list of entrants at www.ffhs.org.uk/news/wa-entrant.htm . The closing date for entries is March 31st 2001. Please include the web address in your email entering the competition, and give the name of your society in full, not just initials. Please give a contact email address. We will acknowledge entries by email. Criteria The web pages should be useful, clear and attractive to non-members, outsiders, those who happen on the pages by searching, or by links from other web sites. They should make it clear what the Society provides - through the web, at public events, through publications and search services, or by joining. The web pages should be useful to members of the Society and other Societies - information about meetings, libraries, courses, email lists for the region or speciality of the Society. Some societies have pages restricted to members, but the FFHS award is restricted to consideration of pages open to all. The web pages should be integrated with other sites - having relevant working links to GENUKI, record offices, libraries, etc, relevant to the Society. It is possible to win an award for a clear and well designed web site achieved with limited resources. There is a preference for web sites which can be read using a variety of browsers, adhere to HTML standards, and are accessible to all. We will announce more detail on these criteria. Judges The composition of the judging panel, and appointed judges, are: Chairman and co-ordinator, David Hawgood; member of FFHS Computer Committee, Malcolm Austen; member of a U.K. Society, Eric Probert of Essex SFH; member of an overseas society, John Snelson of the Society of Australian Genealogists; GENUKI, Brian Randell; representing an organisation which is not a family history society, Michael Armstrong of Family Tree Magazine. Societies will be familiar with these names in other roles as well. Please send any enquiries to David Hawgood - email hawgood@one-name.org - who is the co-ordinator for the award. Information about the award is at www.ffhs.org.uk/news/webaward.htm ------------------------------ regards, David Hawgood. Merlene Ottey for President

    2. Peter Stewart
    3. Greetings to Each of you. I am trying to locate the address [snail mail and email] and phone numbers of the NANDEWARS HISTORICAL SOCIETY. I believe they are the publishers of Margaret Crowley's "Early Settlers in the Nandewars" and "More Early Settlers". I have tried to get these books/pamphlets by inter-library loan through my local library but have been unsuccessful. I am particularly interested in any information in them on the Jurd family to assist with my research and subsequent book on that family. I believe Nandewars area is around Inverell. Is this correct? All help appreciated. Could I also urge everyone to take notice of and act on the informatin regarding the saving of our census details when we complete our forms next August. Sincere thanks. Peter Stewart in Sunny Brisbane. 2. Judy Rowe
    3. Hello Everyone My name is Judy Rowe and I live in Boronia Heights in Queensland.(not too sunny recently) I work full time so unfortunately I am not able to spend much time working on the family history. I am currently researching my husbands family (Rowe) my family (Neilsen) and my mothers family (Williams) plus their families. I have two requests tonight that I hope SKS maybe able to help me with. 1. Cemetary I am hoping someone may have access to burial records for the Fernmount Cemetary (which is just out of Belligen) or the Urunga cemetary, we believe that my husbands grand father may be buried at one of these two cemetaries. The grave I am looking for is for Henry William (Harry ) Rowe who died somewhere, we believe, between 1945 and 1955. 2. Immigration Records I am hoping for information from the shipping records for a Charles and Elizabeth Williams who came to Australia with their 7 children aboard the "Emma Eugenia" 1849...I am after any background information on this family if possible (I don't know what type of information shipping records show-(please forgive my ignorance in this matter) Thank you one and all in advance for any assistance and for your time. Regards Judy Email ashmarr@powerup.com.au
