Nice wun GraHAMe, apologees not required - just piss-off now - perhaps you should cancel your subscription to your ISP and put the money saved towards English/tipping lessons - I gather you are a spammer - so you are thick skinned - and my stupid response herewith will not reach you - and if you're not a spammer - then whacko son - you just made the grade - junior spammer - normal people who wish to advertise rooms/houses/flats/space to let/rent still contact real-estate agents, newspapers, student bulletin boards (actual bulletins boards - like in SRC union buildings), signs in milk-bar windows - your novel approach - spamming a genealogy list - suggests - that like me - you should get a life - think outside the net - do it now why it is still availiable = or atleast you poor dumb bastard - learn to write an ad? - you know - fun-loving yet sobre cousin has a lovely room available in his garden appartment overlooking glorious Avalon beach, adjacent to cosmopolitan shopping centre, short walk to all facilities - a mere $100.00 per week - tolerant cousin prefers non-smokers with references - but anybody hated or loved by Fred Nile should consider 02 is for Sydney not 04? piss-off Grahame Robert At 09:53 AM 5/12/00 +1100, you wrote: >Hello Everyone >I am trying to help a cousin with this advertisement. Hi Listers: NORFOLK DESCENDANTS Found a newspaper cutting in my files - undated but probably circa 1994. Queensland paper - on reverse there's a heading "National". I hope the names may help someone. I have no idea if Prof WALTON is still seeking information or if he is still at this address. I have no further information than that listed below: "NORFOLK DESCENDANTS SOUGHT" Did your ancestors come from Norfolk, England? Hi Gary I deal with the ABS website a fair bit... It is http://www.abs.gov.au regards AD From: Gary Luke <feraltek@zeta.org.au> To: Subject: Australia's Residents Date: Wed, 29 Nov 2000 21:32:32 +1100 At 09:39 AM 29/11/00 +1100, Dick Monks wrote: Dick >> It raises a whimsical question - how many people have lived in >> Australia since 1788? >Now thats a challenge I cant resist! >I reckon the number of people who have been permanent residents of Australia >since 1788 to be between 40 and 60 million, as follows:- You've got an interesting approach to the question. I couldn't think of where to begin to calculate it, but yours is a decent starting point. I knitted some numbers into Excel in front of TV during the news. "When Was That - Chronology of Australia" has estimated population for each year from 1788 to 1987. Total of the annual population for the first 200 years is about 863 million, but there's a few years missing for a few states in the colonial era. On a graph it's a set of fairly linear growth lines. There's two break points where the mean rate of population increase changes - early 1850 & about 1947. WW1 shows up as population decrease for a couple of years. 1912/13 has a very large increase - was there a heavily publicised migrant assistance scheme? The graph looks a bit more parabolic than exponential, but definitely not constant linear. The area under the graph is about half that under a straight line from zero to 20 million. You were a bit out with your estimate of 10,250,000 per year. The final population for 1987 is 16,248,800. Using the mean increase during 1982 to 1987 to extrapolate the population to the current year gives a population in 2000 of 19,323,879, and a total for 212 years of 1,094,944,480. Dividing that by 212 years gives approx 5,165,000 per year, about half your estimated average of 10,250,000. (This tallys with the visual estimate of the area under the two graphs.) I think 45 year average time in Australia is a bit high. In the colonial period many migrant adults lived only a couple of decades after arrival, and many children died before 10. WW1 shortened a lot of lives to less than 30. Post WW2 family migration includes a lot of grandparents. If average time in Australia was 35 it would mean that about 32 million people have lived in Australia. That's only about 65% more than currently live here. If time here was an average of 45 years then only 5 million more than the current population have lived here. By the way, is this really a valid method? Does the Bureau of Statistics have a web site? Hi All Just letting you know that I have added a further 700+ to the Publicans of Victoria List. Courtesy of Derek Reid. The new ones cover Castlemaine, Maldon, Newstead areas and go up to the early 1900's. In each case Derek has supplied his source. For those that are searching for publicans - and believe me this list that I have put up is only a small portion of Victorian publicans - remember that it is a requirement for licensing that they go before the courts. This is usually also listed in the newspapers. If you have an approximate date and place - check out the papers around the December/January period. Whilst searching for my elusive grgrandfather, John William REYNOLDS b.c.1855, I found a family REYNOLDS's that arrived 6 July 1856 in Sydney aboard the 'Ben Nevis'. Reel No. 2473. Father: John aged 23 and Father Patrick aged 50, and Mother Sarah aged 48 (parents both dead) Mother: Anne (nee HIGGINS) aged 20 (parents Patrick and Ellen of Wales) Children: Sarah aged 3, John aged 1. Their passage was paid for by John BARLOW who married Catherine REYNOLDS in 1849, Nsw. Does anyone own these people, or know of somebody researching them. I am trying to find evidence that they are mine but not having much luck. I would be grateful for any information anyone can give me. Thanks, Sheryl Reardon Toowoomba Queensland.
First of all, I apologise to all listers who will receive this message more than once. Apparently my ISP @one.exp.com.au has been having trouble with some spammers who have sent so much nuisance mail that Rootsweb has banned my ISP. This means that, while I can receive Rootsweb mail, I cannot send until my ISP sorts things out with Rootsweb. In the meantime, I have set up a site at: irener44@telstra.easymail.com.au so that I can reply to List messages. If anyone wants to contact me, there is no change, but I can only reply through the above address. Proper nuisance but hopefully not for too long. Again, my apologies, but I would be lost without Rootsweb. What a shame that just a couple of d....d nuisances can wreck things for others because I bet I am not the only one penalised.
