    3. Hi Graham. We are currently using FTM 8.0 Don't know about the cost as ours was given to us by the FTM company as we had been jerked around by them after purchasing 7.5. A friendly warning though. Try and not purchase this product from their company in the U.S as the postage now is a fee of $35.00 to 40.00 US. With the way our dollar is at the moment the postage is a killer. Am not sure if it is in Australian stores yet as we received ours before it was even released on the FTM site. You could try Harvey Norman who have been known in the past to sell FTM versions. 1. Guardianships
    2. Phil Young
    3. Hi Denise, I may be wrong, but I've always been a sceptic about transfer of guardianship for children unless it was ordered by a court. My belief is that many people believe that they have been given guardianship by various people who have no right to grant that right, such as a police officer. As an example, my belief is a will which appoints a guardian of one's children is merely a statement of intent rather than a legal transfer of guardianship. For instance, the current authorities in NSW which arrange transfer of guardianships are: * Childrens Court (cases of child abuse and neglect etc) * Guardianship Board (cases of severe disability of children and adults) * Supreme Court (for unusual cases) Cheers, Phil Young. > -----Original Message----- > From: Denise McMahon [mailto:helendmc@powerup.com.au] > Sent: Thursday, 7 December 2000 8:42 PM > To: AUSTRALIA-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Guardianships > > > A friend's mother died when she was 6 months old, her father away > interstate > most of the time, so she was left with friends for 8 years. 2. Darren
    3. Hi all, I have recently obtained the AIF records of my late G/Grandfather from the National achives. As well as being very impressed with the amount of information that came back.... I also have found out that he had also served in the Boer War. BUT!! I went to the "Australian War Memorial" site to do a search on the nominal roll and couldnt find his name anywhere. Would anyone have any clues?? Would it be that the record keeping back then wasnt up to scratch? Or maybe he didnt really serve?? Who knows.....maybe someone out there can shed some light on the subject maybe!! Thanks, Darren Sunny QLD

    1. Christoffer BRUHN - a Danish gold-digger, farmer, c1864
    2. Lesley Albertson
    3. Hi Listers, I wonder if anyone could help with spotting any clues in this tale - very vague - which might suggest where I could start looking? It has parallels with my own Danish family, who emigrated to NSW in 1856 and fossicked for gold, then selected land. (Except I think by 1864, he had left it a bit late). I tried to explain to Anita that Australia is organised by States...I'm afraid that for a lot of Danes, it is just Australia - or "ned under" :-)) Any help appreciated. Cheers, Lesley (Melbourne) *** I would be very happy if you can help me. The only problem is, that the information I have about Christoffer Bruhn, is a lifestore written by his niece. She tells that he went to England in around 1864. He had 4 brothers and one sister. His sister was born in 1844 and his mother in 1822. Know I say Christoffer, well I am not sure at all, because I have got a familytree from an uncle, but I have found some mistakes, so I can not be sure that his name was Christoffer. As I wrote before he went to England. Later on he went to Australia. He was going to dig for gold, but got a small piece of land. Now this is the story. A another farmer wanted to buy his piece of land but he refused, Then the farmer bought all the land land around Christoffer´s piece and Christoffer had forgotten to buy some road, so he could go to his piece of land and he ended with selling the land to the other farmer. Then he got another piece of land, but it was a good piece of land to use, but he stayed in Australia till he died. And he died as British citizen. The story also says that the place he came to was full of snakes and that he sent for his wife and children when he was settled down. I don´t know any of their names or how many children there was. I hope you can help me with some information. regard Anita

    2. Peter Stewart
    3. Greetings Listers Is there some kind and generous person who 1. has access to Ingham newspapers of 1920 who could do a lookup and email the information to a friend OR 2. can advise what papers were available in Ingham in 1920 and where they could be accessed today. I am looking for the death and funeral notice and any obituary of ALEXANDER GILLIES who died on 13 May 1920 at Ingham Hospital and was buried on 14 May at the Ingham Cemetery. I would have checked the Queensland State Library but as I only received the request yesterday and I am going o/s early Sunday morning I can't get to the Library before I go. To leave it till I can get there in 7 weeks time is unfair, as this friend of mine is helping an elderly lady in the Maitland Family History Circle. If you can offer any help on this question please e-mail Ann at ann.campbell@hunterlink.net.au. Ann has been most helpful to me with my research and I'd love to help her. Thanking you in anticipation - and I look forward to returning the favour in the future. 1. Emanuel Ould - Lighthouse Keeper on the Cape
    2. JenGen
    3. Hi. Wondering if anyone is familiar with an Emanuel Ould who may have emigrated to Australia from South Africa (orig from Cornwall, England) around 1860 or so. He left England in 1850 to be a lighthouse keeper somewhere near Cape of Good Hope, South Africa in 1850. In 1860 his wife and three kids (I'm great-grand daughter to one of those kids) left SA and headed for Utah, USA. Family rumor has it that Emanuel may have gone to Australia after his wife left him. The family has been searching for Emanuel for about 50 years now with no luck. Any info at all would really be appreciated. We'd all like to know what became of our Emanuel.....
